Salmon Derby

The Middle Rogue Steelheaders will hold our Annual Restoring the Rogue Salmon Derby on Saturday August 26th, 2017 with the Banquet, Auctions and raffle on August 24th, 2017 the Thursday evening prior to the Derby. This is our clubs yearly Salmon/Steelhead stream and river conservation and restorations programs fund raiser.

When you first register for the Derby, you have the right to purchase ($100)) your boat. If you opt out of the Calcutta at the time of registration (7/31/2017 deadline), your boat will be available at the Salmon Derby Banquet, August 24, 2017 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.

Funds raised from our derby and cookbook sales help to support conservation and riparian work on and around the Rogue, Applegate and Illinois Rivers. Some of our major projects are the Sardine Creek Dam removal project, Little Butte Creek Channel Restoration, the Storm Drain Marker project in Grants Pass, and contributions to the Indian Creek Hatchery and the Curry Sportsman’s Association (lower Rogue).

We participate in numerous streamside tree planting projects as well as Invasive species identification and removal. We participate with ODFW in ongoing educational programs for adult and youth in the Rogue River basin. Our ODFW certified Angler Education members conduct several school clinics each year along with a daylong fishing outing at Lake Selmac.

We put on adult fishing clinics, a Disabled Veteran’s fishing outing, and annual River Cleanup.

We have built a life jacket station and placed it at Chinook Park. More stations are in the works.

At Thursday night’s dinner we will hold our auctions and raffles. Items included are rods and reels, as well as 3-day guided river trips, dinners and overnight stays at some of Southern Oregon’s Premier Lodges and resorts. Last year the winner of our 50/50 raffle took home $1255. The Calcutta on the boats last year raised over $2400, 50% of which went to our Derby fund and the rest to the winning bidders of the top boats.

There is going to be a limited number of guides available this year. Get your Registration in early.

Come and join us for a fun day of fishing on the river and you will also take home that “warm and fuzzy feeling” for having contributed to a great cause.

Thank you
